In the bird-feeding world, there have been some technological advances with the introduction of Smart bird feeders, but sometimes the most simple changes to design can equate to amazing results - in this case for keeping away pest-birds like the European House Sparrow or the European Starling, as well as the Eurasian Collared Dove.

 

How does an Upside-down feeder help? 

It's simple.  Gravity!  Most species of birds can only cling to surfaces that are flat or typically range from horizontal to vertical, however there are not that many which can hang upside down for a period of time and eat also.

What kinds of birds will be able to eat from an Upside-Down Bird Feeder?  

This is a common question: which bird species would be able to cling to the upside-down feeder and still be able to get food from it? Primarily Woodpeckers & Nuthatches, would be the main target species for this type of feeder. • Red-bellied Woodpeckers

• Red-headed Woodpeckers

• Northern Flickers

• Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers

• Downy Woodpeckers

• Hairy Woodpeckers
